Alabama closes out road schedule with a strong performance against Georgia

In its final SEC and road meet of the season, the No. 6 Alabama gymnastics team recorded a season-best road score to earn a victory over the No. 8 Georgia Bulldogs, 197.700-197.325. Not only was it a season high on the road, but it was the Crimson Tide’s second best score of the season overall.

Alabama got off to a hot start on the uneven bars, tying its season-high with a 49.4 team score. Junior Kiana Winston and senior Katie Bailey led the rotation with a 9.925 and a 9.9, respectively. In the next rotation, a pair of 9.875s from Bailey and freshman Maddie Desch helped Alabama to a 49.275 team score for the afternoon. Desch’s 9.875 is a career high on the vault.

On the floor, Alabama excelled. Alabama saw five gymnasts post a 9.875 or better. Winston led the way for Alabama with a 9.925. Sophomore Ari Guerra tied her season high with a 9.9, while Desch also earned a 9.9.

Alabama’s finished out strong in the fourth rotation, going 49.525 on the balance beam. Junior Nickie Guerrero led the way for Alabama with a 9.95, and Winston was not far behind her with a 9.925. A pair of young gymnasts were able to record career highs on the beam with Desch scoring a 9.9 and sophomore Abby Armbrecht earning a 9.875.

Winston posted the second-best overall score of her career (39.650) and took home the top overall honors.

Next up, Alabama will close out its regular season in Coleman Coliseum with a meet against Iowa State on March 10 at 7:30 p.m. CT.
