Seven ways to save on spring break

Seven ways to save on spring break

Spring Break is right around the corner, and your spring break bod isn’t the only thing that is working out. Between food expenses and bathing suit shopping, your wallet will need a break from all the mayhem. Whether you’re planning on spending your break right here in Alabama or traveling to another country for a few days, the more money you can pocket, the merrier. Here are a few ways to save a few bucks over break.

Plan ahead

Before you embark on your spring break journey, plan ahead and account for the amount of money you actually plan to spend. Budgeting and planning your ideal costs will help you stay on track throughout the week.

Stack up on food to make at home

Instead of relying on fast food and eating out, stack up at the grocery store for the week to cut down the expenses. Food delivery and fancy dinners are quick ways for your wallet to drop a pound or two. Make a sandwich or bring a few snacks when you do your daily activities so you won’t be tempted to eat out more.

Bike and walk more

Whenever convenient or possible, biking and walking will save you a few bucks instead of Ubering or using a form of public transportation. Renting a bike for the week will be significantly less than Ubering everywhere you go. Walking whenever possible, even if it is a little hike, is also ideal. Your legs may hate you, but your bank account will thank you.

Student Discounts

Keep an eye out for student discounts and other deals. Coupon books and Groupons are used commonly, and it wouldn’t be a bad idea to stick one in your bag. Some places have great discounts for students. Don’t forget to ask for student discounts and flash your Action Card.

Money out of sight

Don’t spend it all in one place. Only take your budgeted amount when you go out so you aren’t tempted to splurge. Budget for the day and decide how much you are willing to spend on food and activities instead of taking all of it with you.

Stay with Friends

If you have a friend that lives in your spring break destination, ask if you can stay with them for a few nights. Even camping could be a fun, cheap way to spend the night. Instead of spending a ridiculous amount on an expensive trip, stay with a friend so that housing costs don’t rack up. By not paying a housing cost, you can be spending more money on excursions and food.

Split the Costs

When traveling with friends, splitting the costs of a meal or an Uber will save you big time. We are all broke college students here, so the more ways you split the cost, the more money you have left over. Whether you’re staying in a house with all your friends or camping out under the stars, it’s more beneficial if everyone is chipping in for food and utilities.
