The Homegrown Alabama Farmer’s Market will continue their weekly services throughout the summer, though most students are elsewhere. The Alabama student-run market, which attracts farmers from across the region, meets every Thursday at Canterbury Episcopal Church and is open from 3 p.m. -6 p.m.
The market is open every week during the season, which runs from April to November. The event was the idea of Alabama students and continues to be a passion of those who are involved.
There’s more to the market than shopping. The event is dedicated to student involvement and attracting entertainment. Bands such as The Old Paints play for those who attend the market, and volunteers go to the quad during Green Week to help students better understand their food and their health.
Along with selling fresh meats and produce, the market also sells t-shirts, reusable bags and baked goods.
The market consistently hosts live and local music, locally-grown food and even offers students the option of paying via BamaCash.
