Two Alabama soccer players, junior Celia Jimenez Delgado and sophomore Emma Welch, were selected to the Southeastern Conference coaches’ preseason watch list for the 2016 season on Wednesday.
Both players stood out for the Crimson Tide last season and had a huge impact on the team’s offensive production. Jimenez led the way for Alabama, recording team highs in goals (4), game-winning goals (2), points (10), total shots (55) and shots on goal (18). She also managed to finish second on the team in assists, tallying two for the season. Along with having a successful college career thus far, Jimenez was selected to the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup Spanish National Team as a midfielder.
Welch made a name for herself in her freshman season by leading the Crimson Tide in assists with four on the season. Last year, she was the only freshman to appear in every match for the Crimson Tide, and she also was selected to the SEC All-Freshman team- the first to do it at Alabama since 2012.
Both players will take the field with the Crimson Tide against Sam Houston State on Aug. 19 at 7 p.m. CT at the Alabama Soccer Complex.
