PRACTICE REPORT: Alabama stays busy with football practice before classes start

Tuesday officially marked the last day of summer vacation, but there was no relaxing for the Alabama football team.

The tight ends did a little bit of everything during the practice’s viewing period. Hale Hentges, Truett Harris and Miller Forristall ran routes with quick cuts to catch short passes from coaches. The group then transitioned to working with the quarterbacks, where O.J. Howard led the group as Cooper Bateman and Jalen Hurts switched off throwing passes. The tight ends were last seen working on their blocking, too.

Additional practice notes:

  • Jonathan Allen, Da’Ron Payne and Da’Shawn Hand led the defensive linemen in a drill that required them to continuously shuffle low to the ground. Those same three players, along with Dakota Ball, broke off into a group later
  • Linebackers, such as Ryan Anderson, worked on scooping fumbles and catching interceptions.
  • Bo Scarbrough led the running backs on the far side of the practice field, working through agility drills while carrying two footballs to improve ball control.
  • The secondary, including Eddie Jackson and Minkah Fitzpatrick, spent the viewing period with coach Nick Saban. They practice both one-on-one coverage and game-like situations.
  • Bateman, Hurts and the rest of the quarterbacks also spent time with the wide receivers, such as Robert Foster and ArDarius Stewart. They threw a couple long passes before switching it up to short, quick passes that allowed the wide receivers to burst down the field afterward. None of the shorter passes were seen dropped.
  • Defensive lineman Dalvin Tomlinson worked out on the stationary bike off to the side with a boot on his right foot.
