Two former Alabama men’s basketball players. Levi Randolph and Retin Obasohan signed professional contracts that will reunite the duo in Italy to compete in Italy’s Serie A (first division) with S.S. Felipe Scandone.
“I am so excited to sign my first professional contract that I am at a loss for words,” Obasohan said. “I talked to coach (Avery) Johnson throughout the process and he really helped guide me along the way. It’s funny because coach and I were talking and reminiscing that this time last year, there was no way I would have dreamed about playing in Italy on a first division team in one of the top European leagues. It’s a testament to how good God is and how hard work pays off because this past year has given me so many opportunities.”
Both players will depart for Italy in the middle of August. and both look forward to competing together again after spending last season apart.
“To be given this opportunity is one thing, but to do so with one of my brothers on my side is a blessing in itself,” Obasohan said. “Levi and I played together for four years and came (to Alabama) in the same recruiting class. We have built a chemistry and we push each other to settle for nothing but greatness. It will make the transition a lot easier and I am super grateful he will be by my side.”
The two former SEC Men’s Scholar Athlete of the Year honorees are excited about the opportunity ahead of them, but both maintain that their ultimate goal is to earn a roster spot in the NBA.
“It means a lot to sign this contract and have the opportunity to play in Italy,” Randolph said. “Both mine and Retin’s goal is to make it to the NBA and both of us were close to achieving that this summer [playing in NBA summer leagues]. We are looking at this opportunity to gain more experience by playing against professionals who have been playing at a high level for a long time. We both have been working hard all summer, and we will continue to push each other to get better.”
