The Alabama football team returned to practice on Wednesday, going through many of the team’s usual drills. The team focused on many different aspects of the game as it prepares for the A-Day game next week on Saturday, April 16 when it’ll have to string it all together.
Notes:
-
After a short period of position group drills, most of the defense gathered to work on different packages for in-game situations. The group ran through its nickel-package scheme and where players should line up.
-
During the position drills, the inside linebackers practiced hitting drills with defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt. Players would run at each other, with one of the players getting low and exploding up into the air to simulate proper tackling form.
-
For the first portion of the viewing period, the quarterbacks worked on dropping back to pass. After a couple repetitions of that drill, players, like Cooper Bateman, then worked on running routes with the wide receivers.
-
Tight ends, such as OJ Howard, worked on blocking for the first part of the viewing period. Then, the group transitioned to fighting off of contact to get open on short routes for a pass.
-
The offensive line continued to work on blocking, experimenting with many different lineups and players. Ross Pierschbacher continued to work with the line at the center position.
- The secondary, led by head coach Nick Saban, worked on coverage techniques in different scenarios. The cornerbacks polished their ability to defend long, deep routes by running stride for stride with teammates, who were simulating receivers.
