In its first trip back to Baton Rouge since the SEC tournament last May, No. 6 Alabama softball fell 6-2 to No. 4 LSU to open conference play.
The Tigers took a quick lead in the bottom of the first with a three-run home run. Alabama scored one in the top of the second, but another run came across for LSU. Alabama plated another, but fell behind by four in the bottom of the fourth.
Alabama had nine hits to the Tigers’ 10 and left seven on base.
Sophomore right-hander Alexis Osorio (7-1) took the loss after allowing 10 hits and six earned runs in six innings pitched. She walked two and struck out eight on her way to throwing 150 pitches.
Two Alabama batters had multi-hit nights. Redshirt sophomore Peyton Grantham went 2-4 with two doubles. Sophomore transfer Sydney Booker went 2-3 with a pair of singles.
Alabama (20-3, 0-1 SEC) will play LSU (22-2, 1-0) in the second game of the series Saturday at 5 p.m. CT on SEC Network.
