Alabama baseball had to come up with two big runs in the ninth inning Sunday to beat Brown University, 2-0. The Crimson Tide finished the Baseball-Irish Classic with a 3-1 record for a 10-2 overall record.
“We were outstanding on the mound again today,” coach Mitch Gaspard said. “Ray [Castillo] gave us a good start, Brock [Love] was solid in the middle and [Kyle] Cameron was really good on the back-end. They kept us in the game, and then the offense came through late.”
Castillo, Cameron and Love combined for the shutout, only allowing four hits.
Cobie Vance was hit by the first pitch of the inning, then Cody Henry, who had four RBIs over the weekend, doubled to right field, putting him and Vance in scoring position. Chance Vincent then hit the game-winning sac fly, then Connor Short added a RBI single.
“We found a way late there,” Gaspard said. “It’s about winning games. Today wasn’t real pretty, but we walk away from the tournament 3-1, and 4-1 overall on the road this week.”
Alabama won the first game Friday against Notre Dame in a 4-0 shutout. On Saturday, Alabama split a double-header. The first game of the day, Alabama beat Niagara 8-4. The second game, Alabama lost a close one, 2-1, against N.C. State, where a late eighth-inning run for N.C. State decided it.
Alabama will be back in Tuscaloosa this weekend as Oregon comes for a game on Thusrday, before a three-game series against Houston.
