WHAT: Hemorrhagic Control Forum (Stop the Bleeding)
WHO: The University of Alabama’s Institute for Rural Health Research is hosting the forum. The key note speaker for this event will be Dr. Alexander Eastman, Chief of Trauma at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, Texas and a member of The Hartford Consensus.
WHEN: Thursday, Jan. 28 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
WHERE: Bryant Conference Center
WHY: “We have taught people how to avoid being a victim of an active shooter by running, hiding or fighting,” said Travis Parker, NRP, EMS program specialist for the Institute for Rural Health Research. “We have taught people how to be safe during tornados or other weather events; however, what happens after the event occurs? What happens if we have 20 or 30 injured victims? Do we know what to do? Knowing how to control bleeding is the one thing that will save lives. We have learned some important lessons from the military during conflicts in the Middle East. The types of trauma they experience during war times cannot be replicated in our society and the treatment for these injuries have been proven to save lives. The Hemorrhagic Control Forum, or “Stop the Bleeding,” teaches participants how to control bleeding on all types of injuries.”
The forum is free to the general public, but all who are interested are asked to register at https://register.ua.edu/jsp/
