When the season began Adam Griffith walking out onto the field was the last thing Alabama fans wanted to see.
Not only did that mean Alabama had failed to score a touchdown, but Griffith missed four kicks to start the year. Despite the start his teammates did not give up on him.
“We’re always there for each other,” linebacker Reggie Ragland said. “Adam’s done a great job. I just tell him, ‘Man, just keep having that ice water in your veins. Just keep being confident.'”
Since the rough start he has connected on 19-of-22 field goal attempts including a perfect 5-of-5 against Auburn on Saturday. At one point he went to kick a long field goal and Auburn put a guy back by the uprights, perhaps to rattle Griffith’s confidence by reminding him of the “Kick-Six.”
The entire Alabama team pointed out the return man, but it didn’t matter Griffith’s kick soared through the uprights. When the game ended the kicker who many remembered for his role in the “Kick-Six” now held the school record for made field goals in the Iron Bowl.
“I had so much confidence in him, I ran down, but I felt like he was going to make it,” Ragland said. “So coach told us to run down. I did my job. But in my mind, I felt like he was going to make it, and he did.”
