Twisted hallways, shocking surprises, forbidding noises, and bone chilling atmospheres make haunted house attraction for people all across the country.
Alabama is home to two of the most prominent haunted house attractions in the Southeast. In the days surrounding the eerie holiday of Halloween, thousands of people travel to Atrox Factory (located in Leeds, AL) and Sloss Furnace (located in Birmingham, AL).
From the year 1882 until it’s closing in 1971, Birmingham’s Sloss Furnaces converted coal and ore from nearby areas into the solid steel used to build automobiles and buildings across our country. It was one of many factories that paved the way for the industrial revolution.
Sloss Furnace offers two trails. The furnace trail is a half-mile long and usually takes between 20 to 30 minutes, depending on how quickly you move through it. Outbreak 2 is the new and expanded zombie attraction in which the visitors must “escape the zombies.”
Atrox Factory is the largest indoor haunted house attraction in the Southeast. This 40,000 square feet building is truly a house of terror.
In the weekends leading up to Halloween, a new horror legend visits the Atrox Factory in order to offer a fresh and new “scare” for the visitors. The list of visitors who were on the schedule this year included Pinhead actor Doug Bradley, Leatherface actor Bill Johnson, Eddie Munster actor Butch Patrick, and Michael Myers actor Tony Moran.
Although these are the two of the biggest haunted house attractions in the state of Alabama, other attractions include Insanitarium (located in Pinson, AL) and Hollis haunted Chicken House (located in Heflin, AL).
