After a poor opening round for the Alabama Men’s golf team, the team finished Sunday with its lowest round of the year at 284 at the OFCC/Illini Invitational. The team finished the first round in 12th place, but came roaring back the next two days to finish sixth overall.
“We had an improvement each day after our opening round,” Alabama head coach Jay Seawell said. “I am proud of how the guys kept fighting throughout the weekend. There are a lot of positive things we are doing, but we are still misfiring a lot and still looking for that winning mojo.”
For the second week in a row, freshman Davis Riley was the top finisher for Alabama in just his first two tournaments. He finished fourth overall at 2-under par for his first ever top-5 finish. Joining him among the top 15 was junior All-American, Robby Shelton who just returned from the 2015 Walker Cup in England. He finished 13th overall for a score of 3-over-par.
Alabama compete at the Dick’s Sporting Goods Collegiate Cup Challenge this next weekend in Nashville, Tennessee.
