Soccer game against Harvard ends in scoreless tie

On Friday, The Alabama Crimson Tide soccer team ended their second game of three straight road games with a scoreless tie against Harvard.

Alabama failed to score in the first half. The Crimson Tide took five shots with three shots on goal taken by Emma Welch, Lacey Clarida and Hailey Brohaugh. Goalkeeper Emily Rusk returned back to the starting lineup after sitting out in the Tennessee Tech loss. In her last start she finished with a season high seven saves in a scoreless tie against Wake Forest. She had only one save in the first half against Harvard.

In the second half, the Crimson Tide was forced to stop the aggressive offensive plays by Harvard, who took 10 shots with five shots on goal. Harvard’s midfielder Haley Washburn had two shots on goal in the second period. Both teams couldn’t find a goal in regulation and the match was sent to overtime.

The first overtime consisted of no shot attempts by either team. The second overtime period, Harvard continued their offensive momentum with three shots and one shot hitting the crossbar at the end of regulation by Harvard’s forward Margaret Purce. The game ended in a scoreless tie, Alabama’s second of the season.

Alabama ended the game with nine shots with four shots on goal. The Crimson Tide had a season high 25 fouls. Emily Rusk matched her season high with seven saves for the second time in three games.

The Crimson Tide will play their third straight game on the road this Sunday against the Rhode Island Rams. Opening kick will begin at 6:00 p.m. CT.s
