The University of Alabama women’s track and field team recently completed a very good season, which culminated in three athletes receiving All-American honors: senior Chealsea Taylor, junior Kim Laing and sophomore Krystle Schade.
Taylor garnered All-American honors in the outdoor high jump and the heptathlon.
Laing earned recognition by finishing seventh in the 100-meter hurdles.
Schade became the third Alabama female athlete to garner All-American honors in both the indoor and outdoor seasons in the same year, and the first since 1985 with honors in both the indoor and outdoor high jump.
This marks the first time since 2001 that the Alabama women have been awarded four All-American honors.
“I think we had a terrific season,” said head coach Sandy Fowler. “At the beginning, we weren’t even ranked. I told the team that you have to be ranked at the right time, and that is what happened.”
Fowler was proud of her four All-Americans.
“I think that is the ultimate goal,” she said. “When you’re at a major university that has to be your goal. They did fantastic.”
Fowler said the outlook for future teams is looking good right now.
“We should be very strong,” Fowler said. “Top six in the SEC, top 10 to top 15 at the NCAA Championships, that would be ideal. We had a great recruiting class, so that’s what I look for in the future.”
