The Alabama softball team completed the sweep over rival Auburn by earning two victories Saturday at Jane B. Moore Field. The Crimson Tide won the first game of the twin-bill 9-1 and then secured the sweep with a convincing 10-2 win in the night cap. After the day Alabama improves to 27-9 on the season and 10-4 in Southeastern Conference play.
In the first game, the Tide jumped out to an early lead without collecting a hit. After leadoff hitter Kayla Braud was hit by an Anna Thompson pitch and Whitney Larsen was hit as well, Jazlyn Lunceford hit a flare into centerfield that was mishandled and enabled Braud and Larsen to score from second and first, respectively.
Alabama extended its lead to 3-0 when pinch-runner Keima Davis was brought home a on a sacrifice fly to left off the bat of Lunceford. Cassie Reilly-Boccia started the frame with a single off the right field wall and then moved to second on a wild pitch. Davis then came in and was bunted over to third on a sac-bunt by Larsen and then came home on the fly to left.
Starting pitcher Charlotte Morgan helped her cause in the sixth when she drilled a double off the top of the 12-foot wall in right-center to bring home Braud all the way from first and expand the Tide lead to 8-1.
Morgan (3-2) earned the win after allowing one run on just four hits while striking out one in five innings. Lauren Sewell pitched two perfect innings of relief.
Alabama continued its offensive onslaught in the series finale by plating 10 runs on 10 hits to run away from Auburn 10-2.
Courtney Conley led Alabama at the plate with three hits and three RBI while Morgan collected two hits, scored two runs and drove in two. Braud extended her hitting streak to 12 games and scored a run.
Alabama will return home to host LSU in a midweek conference doubleheader. The two teams will square off at 5:00 p.m. at the Alabama Softball Complex.
