Less than an hour after a new men’s basketball champion was crowned at Lucas Oil Stadium on Monday night, the NCAA transfer portal opened for men’s and women’s basketball.
Several players for both Alabama men’s and women’s basketball decided to put their names in the portal and opt for new scenery.
Aiden Sherrell, center
The 6-foot-10-inch sophomore saw a jump in all major statistics from Year 1 to Year 2, averaging 11.1 points and 6.2 rebounds per game on 53.9% shooting. He reportedly plans to enter the portal after starting every game for the Crimson Tide last season.
It is expected that Alabama will push to keep the Detroit native in Tuscaloosa despite him entering the portal. Still, the big man may opt to return home to the Wolverine State.
Taylor Bol Bowen, forward
The former Florida State transfer reportedly plans to enter the transfer portal after dealing with injuries throughout the season. Despite the injuries, Bol Bowen showed glimpses of his potential, including in a 103-96 win over St. John’s in November.
He told reporters in the locker room after the team’s loss to Michigan in the Sweet 16 that he was open to staying at Alabama. Now, the Jericho, Vermont, native will head for greener pastures.
Jalil Bethea, guard
Bethea transferred from Miami to Alabama with high expectations, but the former five-star failed to live up to them. After a broken toe delayed his Crimson Tide debut until December, Bethea averaged just 7.9 minutes per game, a stark drop from the 19.1 minutes per game he averaged in his lone season with the Hurricanes.
He was reported to have entered the portal on Tuesday night.
Essence Cody, forward
After women’s basketball head coach Kristy Curry departed Alabama for South Florida, Cody — a three-year starter under Curry — officially announced her plans to leave Tuscaloosa in a post to Instagram on Tuesday morning. The star forward started 22 games in 2025-26 and appeared in 27 overall, averaging 11.5 points and four rebounds per game.
Cody would have likely served as a starter for the Crimson Tide in her senior season, but the 6-foot-4 forward will instead play her final collegiate season elsewhere.
Diana Collins, guard
Collins plans to enter the transfer portal, according to On3. The news of her departure came the same day Alabama announced the hiring of Pauline Love, who replaced Curry.
The 5-foot-9 junior from Lilburn, Georgia, started every game for the Crimson Tide. She averaged 8.4 points per game on 45.8% shooting and was poised to receive a larger role next season, with senior guards Jessica Timmons, Ta’Mia Scott and Karly Weathers having concluded their time at the collegiate level. Instead, the former Ohio State transfer will enter the portal for a second time.
Alancia Ramsey, forward
Ramsey announced her plans to enter the transfer portal in an Instagram post last Thursday. She suffered a season-ending shoulder injury and missed Alabama’s NCAA tournament run.
Ramsey appeared in 27 games last season after transferring in from Coastal Carolina.
Joy Egbuna, forward
A former four-star recruit, Egbuna announced her departure from Tuscaloosa on Instagram on March 29. She appeared in 17 games off the bench for the Crimson Tide, averaging 1.1 points per game on 38.9% shooting.
Egbuna appears headed to Florida State, per a report from On3 on Wednesday afternoon.
Reychel Douglas, guard
The redshirt sophomore told On3 that she plans to enter the transfer portal. She appeared in eight games last season after missing the entire 2024-25 season with a knee injury.
