Former Auburn guard Aden Holloway and ex-Auburn commit Labaron Philon combined for a total of 42 points against the Tigers in Alabama’s 96-84 Iron Bowl beatdown.
Holloway transferred to Alabama from Auburn in April 2024, making this his second season competing in crimson instead of orange.
Philon briefly committed to Auburn in February 2023 before decommitting in April and eventually coming to play for Alabama instead.
In the first half alone, Philon put 16 points on the board by himself. Holloway trailed behind him with 9. Just the two of them scored half of Alabama’s total points in the first half.
Holloway put up the first points of the game with a layup in the paint before Philon took off on a 6-0 run with three layups in a row. All three of these layups by Philon came off turnovers committed by Auburn.
The Tigers battled turnover issues throughout the game, and Alabama managed to force 13 turnovers out of Auburn, two more than the Tigers’ season average of 11. Alabama was able to score 17 points off those turnovers.
“Alabama played really well,” Auburn head coach Steven Pearl said. “We had a bunch of really bad turnovers, which got us into a hole, and we weren’t able to dig out of it.”
The Crimson Tide, in comparison, came out of the game with only eight turnovers committed, giving away just 10 points of turnovers to the Tigers.
In the second half, Philon slowed down, only putting up 5 points. Holloway picked up the slack, though, sinking 12 baskets.
“You look at second chance points, points of turnovers, which we lost in a drastic fashion in our loss at Georgia,” head coach Nate Oats said. “I thought we came in and flipped some of the stuff that we had issues with in the loss at Georgia.”
