Four senator-elects for the Graduate school were named Tuesday after the SGA announced last week that it would no longer hold the scheduled run-off election for the seats.
According to the Student Elections Board, Tuesday evening the scheduled run-off election to fill five open Graduate School Senate would no longer be necessary. After contacting the eight write-in nominees, the number of remaining candidates interested in the position was no longer enough to hold a Run-Off election.
“The Elections Board will now proceed with verifying eligibility for all write‑in candidates selected in Tuesday’s General Election,” the Student Elections Board said in a statement last Wednesday.
The Student Elections Board verified on Tuesday that one candidate was ineligible because they aren’t a full-time student, and that two others declined the position, eliminating the need for a runoff election.
Four write-in candidates have accepted their positions: Jennifer Baggett, Reese Gabrielson, Kasia Nicholson and Carlos Reynoso.
The four write-in candidates will represent the Graduate School with Heidi Ward and Rebecca Rose Lutonsky, who campaigned for their positions and were elected last Tuesday.
The Student Elections Board said it expects to receive a final decision on the remaining candidate Tuesday night.
If the remaining candidate declines or any other write-in candidates cannot be certified, the vacancy will be filled through a special election in the fall.
