The University has been named a top producing institution of Fulbright students for the 2025-26 academic year. This is the ninth time in 11 years that the University has earned this distinction.
Founded in 1946, the Fulbright program provides students the opportunity to study and conduct research in various countries.
“The Fulbright Program creates powerful opportunities for students to engage with the world, and The University of Alabama has long been committed to leading in this space,” said Peter Mohler, president of the University. “Being recognized again as a Top Producing Institution reflects the caliber of our students and the guidance and support we provide to prepare them to think globally, lead with purpose and make a lasting impact in their communities and beyond.”
Sean Coffman Atchison, a current Fulbright student studying in Brazil, said the opportunity has given him a greater perspective of the world.
“It’s a great opportunity to connect internationally with academics to deepen my knowledge and learn language skills,” he said. “Whatever country you may be on the fence about applying to, they have something there that you don’t have right now, some perspective that you don’t have, that you can gain by going there.”
The program selects approximately 1,500 award recipients from more than 11,000 applicants annually. The University had 15 students selected for teaching and research scholarships this academic year.
Oleg Kyselov, an instructor in the department of religious studies, came to the University as a Fulbright visiting scholar from Ukraine in October 2021 before being hired full-time for the 2022-23 academic year.
Kyselov said that the University is a “productive institution” with resources such as representatives to help students applying for the Fulbright program.
“They were very professional and they really help students,” he said. “I also met students who were already on these kinds of programs and how they appreciate very much the experience they got being participants there.”
