The University’s National Pan-Hellenic Council hosted its annual Homecoming step show on Friday, with Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. winning for the second year in a row.
The four participating NPHC organizations, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc., highlighted classic games for the year’s theme, “Game On.”
“We’ve been working on this for a very long time,” said Kaleigh McGrew, director of external affairs for the NPHC. “Some chapters have been practicing since the spring, so definitely a long time coming.”
The evening began with performances from Alpha Gamma Delta, Alpha Chi Omega and Phi Mu, who placed first, second and third respectively in the Crimson Division Choreography Competition, a separate event hosted by UA Homecoming.
The Crimson Belles, AV Dance Collective and Riptide HipHop Dance Crew also performed.
Alpha Phi Alpha Inc. won first place with its “Five Nights at Freddy’s” themed performance.
“When you put in work like we put in, anything can happen,” said Deuce Stringer, a member of the Kappa Alpha chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc.
Alpha Kappa Alpha placed second with its “Clue” themed performance and Omega Psi Phi placed third with an “NBA Jump” themed performance.
“It’s been an experience,” said Ashton McGhee, step master of the Kappa Alpha chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. “It’s been long hours, it’s been frustration. But it’s been fun, as you can see. It’s just beautiful man.”
