The World Ballet Company will come to Tuscaloosa on Oct. 16 at 7 p.m. the Historic Bama Theatre to perform “Cinderella,” a Broadway-style ballet that brings the beloved fairytale to life.
With its mission statement of “ballet everywhere, ballet for all,” the World Ballet Company tours over 150 cities each year, featuring a cast of 40 international dancers, more than 150 hand-sewn costumes and handcrafted sets.
Brenden O’Sullivan, a junior majoring in economics and exchange student from London said he was excited for the show.
“I can’t really wait to see it. Being from London, I grew up seeing ballet, and I didn’t even know this kind of thing would be here. I’ll definitely be attending,” O’Sullivan said.
Tickets range from $30 to $100, and the performance runs for two hours.
“The Bama Theatre has grown so much in the last year,” said Hannah Hall, the theatre’s manager. “People know the theatre, but many don’t realize all the amazing performances and educational programs we offer.”
The upcoming “Cinderella” performance is part of a broader effort to make the performing arts more accessible in the community.
“When companies like World Ballet visit, they often go out into the community,” Hall said. “The last dance group we hosted taught over 17 classes across the county. It’s not just about performing; it’s about inspiring the next generation.”
McKynna Stevens, a senior majoring in human development, shared her excitement about the chance to see professional dance.
“I loved watching Dance Moms growing up, and now having the opportunity to go to something like this makes me really excited,” Stevens said.
