The Tuscaloosa City Council approved Algabi Inc. for an alcohol license to operate at Tide Mart.
The license will allow for the purchase of alcohol from the store for off-premise consumption only. The location was previously a car wash before being converted into a space for new businesses. Tide Mart is located at 2215 15th Street next to Tuscaloosa Fire Station 1.
Following the alcohol license approval, the city council approved the demolition of 2842 18th Street following its 45 housing code violations. The owner removed trash and debris in addition to boarding up the house, although no other work had been done. The property was condemned Sept. 20, 2024, and is in the revitalization area authorized by Mayor Walt Maddox.
The owner is aware that if condemned and demolished, the cost of the demolition will be charged back to the owner. They were not present at the meeting.
“I want to thank the city for either demoing, closing or helping to bring houses back up to code,” said Matthew Wilson, city council member.
