Alabama swimming and diving ended its regular season with a loss to Auburn in the Iron Bowl of the water on Jan 24. Although the Crimson Tide was swept, the team gave a strong performance, with 13 first-place finishes.
Men
The men’s team fell to the Tigers 177.5-122.5, even with six first-place finishes. Highlighting the men’s team was sophomore Leonardo Alcantara, who broke his own school record in the 1000-yard freestyle and finished second.
- Alcantara finished the race in 8:53.60, beating his previous record by two tenths of a second.
- Senior Charlie Hawke continued his outstanding season, leading the way for an Alabama 1-2 finish in the 200-yard freestyle, with junior Toni Dragoja finishing behind him in second. They finished with times of 1:33.08 and 1:34.40 respectively.
- Hawke also placed second in the 500-yard freestyle, with a time of 4:18.73.
- Sophomore Lance Johnson led the Crimson Tide to another victory in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:55.08. He was followed by freshman Noah Saylor finishing in 1:56.70.
- Senior Kaique Alves also led Alabama to a 1-2-3 finish in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 52.69. Graduate student Trey Sheils followed with a 53.40, and fellow graduate Michael Deans rounded out the podium with a 53.71.
- Alves and Dragoja brought home another 1-2 finish in the 100-yard freestyle, finishing in 42.71 and 43.06, respectively.
- Hawke, Alves and Dragoja were joined by freshman Adam Varga to claim another spot on the top of the podium with a 2:49.00 victory in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
- Sophomore Tommy Hagar had three second-place finishes, coming second in the 200-yard backstroke, the 200-yard individual medley and the 200-yard butterfly. His times were 1:42.91, 1:46.71 and 1:45.65, respectively.
- Hagar and Alves, joined by juniors Tim Korstanje and Drayden Bell, claimed second in the 200-yard medley relay, finishing in 1:24.59.
Women
The women’s team also fell to the Tigers, recording a 162-138 loss, with seven first-place finishes.
Fifth-year senior Liberty Williams highlighted the women’s team with a dominant victory in the 1000-yard freestyle, finishing over five seconds ahead of the runner-up. Williams also led the way for a 1-2 finish in the 500-yard freestyle with junior Mackenzie Brandt claiming second place.
- Junior Emily Jones, senior Kasia Norman, and sophomores Jada Scott and Cadence Vincent won the 200-yard medley relay, clocking a 1:35.20 victory for the Crimson Tide.
- Jones won the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:55.23. She also placed second in the 100-yard backstroke, swimming 51.45.
- Senior Avery Wiseman paced fellow seniors Diana Petkova and Norman for an Alabama 1-2-3. With their dominant performance in the 100-yard breaststroke, the Crimson Tide swept the men’s and women’s events, claiming all spots on the podium.
- Junior Charlotte Rosendale and senior Kailyn Winter were joined by Vincent and Scott, for the 400-yard freestyle relay. They took second place with a time of 3:14.71.
With the regular season ending in a loss, the Crimson Tide now looks ahead to the SEC championships, which will be held from Feb. 18 to Feb. 22 at the University of Georgia.
