Alabama football got back on track this past Saturday, defeating the Missouri Tigers 34-0. Here are the players of the game for Alabama.
Offensive players
Jalen Milroe. After a rough past few weeks, the quarterback delivered a solid performance, completing 16 of his 26 passes for 215 yards.
Milroe also effectively used his legs for the first time since the Georgia game, rushing for 50 yards and adding a touchdown on the ground.
There were still a couple of inaccurate throws, but he looked much improved and more confident in the pocket than in the past few games. After a three-game stretch in which he had six turnovers, Milroe protected the football and had no turnovers in the win, even during the couple times he got blindside tackled.
“It was great to put on display all the hard work we did during the week,” Milroe said. “It was able to come into light during the game.”
Germie Bernard. The wide receiver continued his hot stretch for the Crimson Tide, leading the team in catches with five and receiving yards with 82.
Bernard has quietly led the team in receiving yards the past four weeks, even with Ryan Williams getting a bulk of the targets, and he now has four straight games with at least 70 yards receiving.
“[Germie] is a guy I’m definitely confident in,” Milroe said. “He does a really good job, and he’s constantly growing.”
Defensive players
Bray Hubbard. Alabama was looking for a player to step up in starting safety Keon Sabb’s absence, and Hubbard was up to the task.
In his first career start, Hubbard recorded eight tackles and an interception off Missouri quarterback Drew Pyne.
“I was excited for Bray to have this opportunity,” head coach Kalen DeBoer said. “The guys really do believe in him and he works extremely hard.”
Malachi Moore. The team captain delivered an exceptional performance, recording four tackles, a pass breakup and an interception, which came on Pyne’s first throw of the game.
Moore caught a lot of flak after his actions on the field at the end of the Vanderbilt game, but DeBoer praised his growth both as a leader and a player since then.
“You love seeing growth be rewarded,” DeBoer said. “I’m very happy for him.”
Alabama is now headed into a much-needed bye week before a big matchup against the LSU Tigers in Death Valley on Nov. 9.
