Tide finishes preparations for Nationals

DULUTH, Ga. – The Alabama gymnastics team finished up its last practice before the NCAA Championships begin Friday. The Crimson Tide had 15 minutes on each event to warm up.

“I thought we had a good warm up,” head coach Sarah Patterson said. “Today’s all about adjustment. Getting your steps, getting your timing, feeling the balance of the equipment and we were done with time to spare. Knowing that we have 15 minutes [of warm-up] tomorrow, you don’t want to over do it today because you’ve got a long night tomorrow night.”

Here is the schedule and setup for the championships: • 12 teams compete on Friday in two groups – one at noon (ET) and one at 6 p.m. (ET). The top three teams from each group advance and compete in the Super Six on Saturday. The team with the highest score in the Super Six wins the national championship. • Alabama will compete in the evening session on Friday along with Florida, Arkansas, Oregon State, Georgia and Ohio State. The Tide defeated the Gators, Razorbacks and Bulldogs in head-to-head meets this season. • Alabama will start on the balance beam, have a bye, compete on the floor, then vault, then have another bye before ending on the uneven bars. • Competing in the first session is UCLA, Utah, Stanford, Oklahoma, Nebraska and LSU. Patterson said Alabama will not watch the first session, because the results do not impact the Tide’s chances of advancing.
