The No. 5 Alabama softball team tied a school record with a 14-run inning and six home runs to earn a series sweep over South Carolina by a score of 21-1 Sunday afternoon at the Alabama Softball Complex.

The 21 runs equal the most scored in a game in UA school history, as does the 20-run margin of victory. The 21 runs are the most scored by the Tide in Southeastern Conference play. After the sweep, Alabama improves to 22-7 overall and 6-2 in SEC games.

“I have always said to not waste an at-bat no matter what the score, and today, everyone took advantage of their opportunity,” Alabama head coach Patrick Murphy said. “I can’t remember many days like this where we had people coming off the bench hitting home runs in wet and cold conditions.”

Freshman Lauren Sewell earned the win by tossing three innings of relief. Sewell (7-0) allowed one run on three hits and struck out four. Junior Kelsi Dunne started the game and allowed just one hit in two innings, striking out three.

Alabama will remain at home and host in-state foe UAB on Wednesday. The two teams that have already squared off once this season will meet again at 6 p.m. at the Alabama Softball Complex.
