Alabama volleyball fell to LSU 3-1 on Friday, Oct. 18 in Baton Rouge in a four-set match.

An early tie opened up the first set and continued throughout the first half of the set. After LSU scored three in a row, drawing within two points of Alabama, LSU continued to rally and closed out the set with a win, 25-19. The second set played out similarly to the first: neck-and-neck at the start, but Alabama could not gain enough momentum to beat the Tigers. LSU ended the set again with a 25-19 win.

Alabama came back with a lot of power in the third set. A kill from freshman middle blocker Alyiah Wells put Alabama ahead 5-3. Alabama hit double digits with kills from senior middle blocker Hayley McSparin and redshirt junior outside hitter Ashley Homan. The momentum continued and Alabama took the third set 25-19.

LSU took an early lead in the fourth set, but the set was a challenge for the Tigers. Three times Alabama fought back to make it a one point game, but LSU finally closed out the final set with a score of 25-21.

Despite the loss, the team put up multiple season-high stats.

McSparin had a season-high 13 kills, which pushed her past the 900-kill mark for her career. Freshman setter Emily Janek tallied her third double-double of the season with 41 assists and 11 digs. Junior libero/defensive specialist Kaylee Thomas and junior outside hitter Doris Carter also finished the match with double-digit digs, posting a team-leading 23.

Alabama will be back home to host Kentucky at its annual Power of Pink match on Sunday, Oct. 20 at 2 p.m. CT.
