After back-to-back conference wins, Alabama lost in straight sets to Georgia on Sunday.

After a late rally in the first set, Alabama (10-5, 2-2 SEC) fell to Georgia (11-4, 3-1 SEC), 25-22. The Crimson Tide  jumped ahead early in the second for a 6-3 lead. The lead continued until the Bulldogs had a 5-0 run. The score tied five times throughout the set but Georgia held on to win by two and take a 2-0 match lead. Georgia hit a double-digit lead in the third. Alabama rallied back, making it a one-point game, but still fell by two, 25-23. Georgia swept the match 3-0.

Senior outside hitter Ginger Perinar led the team with 10 kills, giving the team an ace and a block assist for 11.5 points. Freshman opposite hitter/setter Emily Janek put up 27 of the team’s 34 assists. The back-row defense was led by junior libero/defensive specialist Kaylee Thomas earning 17 digs.

The team’s defense struggled, posting fewer than 10 team blocks for the first time in SEC play. Alabama earned its third-fewest total blocks of the season, recording six against Georgia.

Alabama will return back home to Tuscaloosa on Wednesday, Oct. 9, hosting Mississippi State at 6 p.m.
