Volleyball drops four-set match to Texas A&M

Alabama volleyball fell short in its first SEC match of the season against Texas A&M on Tuesday night, taking a 3-1 loss against the Aggies.

Texas A&M (9-2, 1-0 SEC) won the first two sets with final scores of 25-20 and 25-19. The Aggies took an early lead in the third set, but the Crimson Tide came back late in the set to take the win, 25-23, and send the match to a fourth set.

With an early 8-0 lead in the fourth set, the Aggies held on to close out the set 25-19 and earn the win.

Although it was a loss for the Crimson Tide, successes were found with blocks and aces. Six of the twelve blocks were executed by senior middle blocker Hayley McSparin, marking her season high. The others were tied between sophomore middle blocker Erin Curl and freshman middle blocker Alyiah Wells.

Alabama ended with seven aces opposed to Texas A&M earning only two. Redshirt junior outside hitter Ashley Homan and junior libero/defensive specialist Kaylee Thomas tied with two aces each, and junior outside hitter Doris Carter also contributed one of the seven.

Graduate outside hitter Eva Borrowdale has been consistently leading in kills this season. On Tuesday night she tied her season high with 11 kills en route to a .417 hitting percentage. She also added a pair of blocks.

Alabama will return home for its second SEC match on Sunday, Sept. 29, hosting Arkansas (6-6, 0-0 SEC) at 2 p.m. CT in Foster Auditorium.
