Alabama volleyball put up its second straight sweep on Friday morning, defeating Georgia State in three sets at Bartow Arena in Birmingham.

Alabama won each set by an increasing margin, defeating Georgia State (3-4) 25-22 in the first. The Crimson Tide claimed 25-17 and 25-15 victories in the second and third, respectively, to improve to 7-1 on the season.

“The carryover from practice into these last two matches showed at the service line. I really liked our focus and mindset,” head coach Lindsey Devine said. “In this particular match, I thought we had a lot of block touches and slowed their offense down, which allowed us to really spread our offense and get a lot of people involved. I liked our tenacity that we showed during our long scoring runs.”

Graduate outside hitter Eva Borrowdale led the offense, posting a season-best 11 kills and a .385 hitting percentage. Covering plenty of ground, she also earned her first double-double with 10 digs. Freshman middle blocker Alyiah Wells tied her season high with six blocks with senior outside hitter Ginger Perinar close behind with five.

Alabama took advantage of a large number of Georgia State attack errors. The Panthers committed 25 for a .048 team hitting percentage as opposed to just eight from the Tide. Alabama’s net defense was stronger in today’s match as well, posting eight blocks to just three from Georgia State.

Alabama will conclude its weekend at the Blazer Invitational facing Alcorn State (2-3) Saturday, Sept. 14 at 10 a.m. CT.
