Alabama closed out its weekend in Virginia with a four-set win against North Carolina State on Saturday.

After a loss in the first set, the Crimson Tide (5-1) rallied to win the next three with scores of 25-21 in the second, 25-21 in the third and winning the match in the fourth set by a score of 25-15.

Alabama did not allow NC State to get into a rhythm as it held the Wolves to a .084 team hitting percentage. NC State had more than twice as many attack errors as the Crimson Tide with 34 as opposed to 16.

One of the reasons for the low hitting percentage was because of sophomore setter Mylana Byrd. Byrd led the team in blocks, ending with five total out of the team’s seven total. If a ball got through Alabama’s blockers, junior libero and defensive specialist Kaylee Thomas was there to prevent a score as she eclipsed double-digits in digs, earning 20.

Senior middle blocker Hayley McSparin was efficient on offense earning the player of the match. She led the team with 10 kills hitting .500 with only one error in 18 swings.

Outside hitter Eva Borrowdale had her best statistical game in a Crimson Tide uniform as she finished with eight kills and four digs.

Alabama will play three matches in Birmingham starting Thursday, Sept. 12 against UAB at 7 p.m. CT.
