Alabama offensive coordinator Brian Daboll will leave Alabama after just one season to become the offensive coordinator of the Buffalo Bills. 

Alabama head coach Nick Saban released a statement after the departure of Daboll.

“Brian did a tremendous job for us this past season at Alabama, and I know he will do a great job for the Buffalo Bills,” Saban said.  “He is an outstanding coach and coordinator who put us in position to be successful each week. We appreciate all that he did in terms of his time and his dedication in contributing to the success we had this season. We wish Brian, his wife Beth, and their entire family all the best.”

Alabama will be searching for its fourth offensive coordinator in just 14 months after Lane Kiffin and Steve Sarkisian both left last season. Daboll’s time at Alabama was the first time he had ever been an offensive coordinator in college.

Most of Daboll’s experience comes from the NFL. He was offensive coordinator of the Cleveland Browns, Miami Dolphins and Kansas City Chiefs all at one point. He spent three seasons as the tight ends coach for the New England Patriots before coming to Alabama.

This season, Alabama’s offense averaged 37 points per game and 444 yards per game. Alabama ranked 15th in the nation in points per game and first in the SEC in that category.

Alabama will now search for yet another offensive coordinator. This is the third major assistant to leave for another job this offseason. Jeremy Pruitt is now the head coach at Tennessee, while Derrick Ansley is the defensive backs coach of the Oakland Raiders.
