Four Alabama community theatre companies, including Theatre Tuscaloosa, will compete in a festival this weekend.

The “ACTFest” is the Alabama Conference of Theatre’s Community Theatre Festival, and this year’s host is Theatre Tuscaloosa. The festival will take place today and tomorrow at the Bean-Brown Theatre at the Shelton State Fine Arts Suite.

Theatre Tuscaloosa will perform “The End of a Line,” a one-act play about two elderly sisters in 1980s rural Alabama who must come to terms with their nephew’s homosexuality, life and death. This performance is tomorrow at 6:30 p.m.

The Auburn Area Community Theatre will perform “Motherhood Out Loud” and South City Theatre will present “Doubt, A Parable.” The Actor’s Charitable Theatre will peform “Disaster!” A complete schedule of events can be found here

Professionals will judge the competition, and the winning theatre will present their production at the Southeastern Theatre Conference’s Community Theatre Festival in March in Mobile.

The festival is open to the public, and tickets are available for $10 for two shows or $15 for all the shows. You can purchase tickets to the event here or by calling the box office at 205-391-2277.
