PRACTICE REPORT: Alabama prepares for uptempo offense

The Alabama football team practiced Tuesday afternoon, and will have to wait until Saturday to see if it has practiced and accomplished enough to defeat Ole Miss on Saturday. Last season, the Crimson Tide fell to the Rebels 23-17.

In interviews, more than one player has said they have not forgotten that game.

Practice Notes:

  • The quarterbacks started off the viewing period off on their own. They appeared to be practicing on throwing passes while in motion.
  • The wide receivers joined the quarterbacks for the second half of the viewing period. The short, quick passes appeared to be on target and were caught regularly, and the longer passes were caught but weren’t always spot-on.
  • Linebackers worked on agility drills at the beginning. There was a lot of shuffling going on – quick feet, quick feet. This included, but is not limited to, Reggie Ragland, Reuben Foster and Shaun Dion Hamilton.
  • Defensive linemen like Jarran Reed, A’Shawn Robinson, Dalvin Tomlinson and Jonathon Allen also worked on agility drills, specifically quick footwork.
  • Later some defensive lineman, including Joshua Frazier, Jarran Reed and D.J. Pettway, worked on drills that focused on blocking strength with practice equipment.
  • The running backs worked with both an offensive and a defensive line to practice finding holes on different plays.
  • Two Alabama players wore yellow jerseys with No. 1 and No. 17 on them to represent Ole Miss players Laquon Treadwell and Evan Engram, respectively. Last season against the Auburn Tigers, Treadwell broke his leg and dislocated his ankle. Before the injury, he was a key player for the Rebels and now that he’s back Alabama is preparing for him.
