Coming out of its third SEC series sweep against Kentucky, Alabama continued its hot streak, defeating UAB 6-0 to mark the Crimson Tide’s 20th overall shutout of the season.
Both teams ended the first inning scoreless. Infielder Jena Young broke Alabama’s runless streak in the second, scoring on a sac fly. UAB was unable to make it onto the board.
UAB’s luck got worse after the second inning. None of UAB’s baserunners were able to make it safely to base after the second.
Pitcher Vic Moten struck out 10 during the game to earn her the win in the circle, her 5th complete game shutout of the season, as well as her third game with double-digit strikeouts.
Outfielder Lauren Johnson kicked off the third inning with a solo home run, her third of the season. Infielder Brooke Wells brought in Alabama’s next two runs with a double in the gap.
Utility player Alexis Pupillo capped off scoring for Alabama with a home run to center in the seventh inning. This puts Pupillo two shy of joining Wells in Alabama’s top 10 in single-season home runs.
Alabama will play again this weekend in a series against Tennessee in Knoxville. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. CT on Saturday.
