Alabama women’s basketball guard Jessica Timmons proved essential during the fourth quarter against an athletic Ole Miss team, finishing with a game-high 23 points despite a slow start.
Timmons, who is usually a high scorer for Alabama, went the half contributing only 2 points to the Crimson Tide’s tally.
Against Mississippi State, Timmons put up 28 points, a season high for her.
“Coach Kristy got on me. She was like ‘You got 2 points. There’s no excuse,’” Timmons said. “I kept playing, and on the next possession, I got a transition layup.”
Timmons came back motivated after the first half and made significant progress, scoring 9 points in the third quarter. It was her fourth quarter performance that made the most difference for the Crimson Tide, though.
With 1:29 left in the fourth quarter, Alabama trailed Ole Miss 61-59 before Timmons swung the momentum back in the Crimson Tide’s favor.
Timmons shot two successful free throws and a layup in under a minute, allowing Alabama to take back the lead 62-61.
During the fourth quarter, Timmons increased her overall points to 23, putting up 12 points in the fourth alone, more than in all three previous quarters combined.
“She’s pretty stubborn, but that’s what’s special about her,” head coach Kristy Curry said. “I love players that are stubborn and hardheaded, because they just fight.”
