Techstars, an investor in startup ventures, will host two Founder Catalyst programs and a three-day Startup Weekend event in collaboration with the University and the Tuscaloosa County Economic Development Authority. Registration is free for all programs.
“We’re honored to expand our work with The University of Alabama and Techstars,” said Justice Smyth, executive director of TCEDA. “These new cohorts and Startup Weekend will deepen our regional innovation ecosystem, offering founders vital tools and networks to launch breakthrough ventures.”
Startup Weekend will be held from Jan. 23-25 at The EDGE Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation.
The Founder Catalyst program, a 10-week non-equity program, will focus on water tech and sustainability. It will have a spring and fall cohort respectively, according to Techstars.
Wells said each Founder Catalyst program will accept around 25 startups for each cohort, and that participants will receive one-on-one coaching, as well as connect with mentors, to learn how to pitch, sell and talk to investors.
Decarri Wells, program manager for Techstars, said that “anyone can register” for Startup weekend and encourages all who sign up to fully participate throughout the weekend.
Participants will form teams, participate in workshops and compete in a pitch competition. Those interested must register by Monday at 11:59 p.m.
