Theatre Tuscaloosa will perform “Scrooge! The Musical” at the Bean-Brown Theatre from Dec. 12 to Dec. 21. Tickets for the show can be purchased online.
Directed by University of Alabama assistant professor of theater Matt Davis, the story follows Ebeneezer Scrooge on Christmas Eve night as he is guided by three spirits on a journey through his past, present and future.
Molly Page, theatre program coordinator at Shelton State University and hair and wig designer for “Scrooge!” talked about how exciting it is to bring such a well-known story to life.
“I’m such a big fan of Christmas in general and this story specifically so I can’t wait to share it with our audiences,” she said. “This story is so well-known, but this version is a little different, especially being a musical, so I think there will be something new and fresh for everyone to connect with.”
Page mentioned how great it is to finally see the entire creative team’s hard work pay off, emphasizing how much she enjoyed “watching the pieces finally slide into place the last few days.”
She also highlighted the “diverse” cast and how the cast has “blended well” into a community.
“This cast and creative team worked so hard,” she said. “This show is a monster to bring together, and I think audiences are going to be just astounded by what they see on stage.”
Page added that she is especially anticipating viewers coming away from such an iconic tale with a rejuvenated holiday spirit.
“I am most excited for audiences to just experience this timeless story in a whole new way, and maybe walk away with a renewed spirit of generosity and Christmas,” she said.
