The SGA, in partnership with Alabama Athletics, donated unused upper-bowl student tickets to veterans and current service members through VetTix for the Eastern Illinois football game. Students with upper-bowl tickets will now have lower-bowl tickets for the game.
VetTix, according to its website, is a foundation that works to provide “reintegration opportunities and family bonding experiences” for service members and veterans through “providing free tickets to socially interactive events.”
“I think it’s really important that veterans are treated with respect and supported by the community,” said Emily Patat, a sophomore at Alabama in the Army ROTC program.
She added that she likes how Alabama supports all military personnel because “it never happens” in the nation.
Lucy Bonhaus, the SGA president, said Alabama Athletics and the SGA have worked together closely in the past when deciding how to best utilize student tickets.
“We never make these decisions lightly as they’re based on careful analysis of turnout trends, historical numbers, and the goal of maximizing the student experience at Bryant-Denny,” said Lucy Bonhaus, SGA president.
Aavion Bland, a freshman majoring in mechanical engineering and a member of the National Guard, said she feels this is a step in the right direction for the University to show more support for service members.
“I feel we should do more to show support to service members and veterans, but as of right now, I feel the support we show is great,” she said.
