Currently ranked as MLB’s second overall college prospect, Alabama shortstop Justin Lebron won’t just be defending his reputation playing for Alabama; he’ll be building a new one.
Coming off a major 2025 season, Lebron slashed a whopping .316/.421/.636 while also going on to hit 18 home runs and 72 RBIs. Not only has Lebron been showing up with the bat, but he improved his defensive game from a .951 fielding percentage his freshman year to .963 his sophomore year.
Lebron looks to not only maintain his consistency on both sides of the ball but to upgrade his already stellar abilities. Maintaining his dominance on defense and improving as a threat on the basepaths are two of Lebron’s best and most attractive attributes.
Improving from 10 steals his freshman year to 17 his sophomore year and continuing to add onto that this upcoming season would be very beneficial for him. However, boosting his draft spot goes beyond his stats and awards. Playing in nearly every game is a major tell to big league scouts regarding a player’s durability and stamina throughout a season.
Proven track record
Lebron has worked to earn the hype built around him going into this season. While his stats show that he has major potential, it has been his consistency throughout his first two years that has earned him not just second pick projections, but incredible college awards. Lebron finished as a Golden Spikes semi-finalist last season, the most prestigious award in college baseball, while also making the SEC All-Defensive Team and Second Team All-SEC, among other awards.
Although stats and awards look nice on his resume, the biggest question with college talent is whether their skills will carry over to the next level. In regards to Lebron, this is no worry.
Currently ranked No. 2 by MLB’s Top 20 College Prospects in the 2026 class, Lebron is described as quick, with good power and an elite defensive skillset. All attributes that have a high success rate of carrying over into the big leagues.
Loyalty and faith from Lebron
Ranked as a top college player and coming off a major sophomore season with the Crimson Tide, worry spread throughout Tuscaloosa that the star shortstop was leaving to chase an NIL check at a blue blood program. These worries quickly got put to bed, however.
In an interview with Tide 1009, Lebron signified what he has planned for this offseason, not only for himself but for the Crimson Tide program as well. “I’m very big on loyalty, and I won’t leave somewhere I haven’t given my all to,” Lebron said.
Building a significant baseball program is not something that is just a dream for Lebron, but something he plans on making a reality.
