Who: Parent & Family Programs is hosting their annual family weekend.

What: Family Weekend will kick off its events on Friday night. Families can spend Friday night downtown at Tuscaloosa’s Government Plaza. There will be musical entertainment and several restaurants and food trucks to choose from. On Saturday, there will be a tailgate at Presidential Park before the game. The weekend will conclude Sunday with a brunch at Fresh Foods.

When: This weekend, Sept. 28-30.

Where: The University of Alabama

Why: Kimberly Sterritt, director of Parent & Family Programs, weighed in on the event’s importance.

“It’s kind of two reasons: number one, we know that students who have familial support actually do better in college and are more likely to graduate from college because they have support,” Sterritt said. “Number two, Family Weekend comes at a time during the year for students when they’re in their routine and when the family members who come back in particularly for first-year students and those students can show them around and introduce them to their new friends. It gives the families a good chance to reconnect with their students after about six weeks away. “
