Civil Rights Museum excursion helps celebrate Black History Month

What: Civil Rights Museum excursion 

Who: The event will be co-sponsored by the Black Student Union and University Programs

When: Saturday, Feb. 17, 9 a.m.

Where: Civil Rights Museum in Birmingham

Why: The Civil Rights Museum excursion will give students the opportunity to leave campus and learn more about the historical Civil Rights Museum in Birmingham as well as the 16th Street Baptist Church. 

Vice president of the Black Student Union, Darnell Sharperson, a sophomore majoring in public relations spoke about how students would benefit from this event.

“The student body will benefit greatly from this excursion as we are providing a space to celebrate Black History,” Sharperson said. “This is an opportunity for students to feel appreciated and connected to our past with tangible items that we can see and feel.”

Sharperson also spoke about the how the excursion could impact the future of the UA community. 

“We are providing the chance to gather the tools we need as a community to move forward and create our tomorrow,” Sharperson said. “Our goal is that every student takes something away from this experience as we seek to continue building a more cohesive and diverse environment at UA.”

Check in begins at 8 a.m. in the Ferg Plaza, and the provided transportation with leave an hour later.
