PRACTICE REPORT: Alabama football looks to build of shut out

PRACTICE+REPORT%3A+Alabama+football+looks+to+build+of+shut+out

The University of Alabama football team completed its first shutout Saturday, 48-0, against Kent State, and the Crimson Tide returned to practice Monday as it prepares to host Kentucky this weekend for its homecoming game.

After recording three sacks against Kent State, the Alabama defense looks to increase that number. Its linebackers were working on drills that would help them burst around and through offensive lines and tight ends.

Additional Practice Notes:

  • Alabama coach Nick Saban spent the media-viewing period with the secondary, such as defensive backs Minkah Fitzpatrick and Marlon Humphrey. He threw passes down the field so the defensive backs could work on one-on-one coverage and snagging interceptions.
  • Defensive back Tony Brown was also practicing with the secondary. Saban announced before practice that Brown’s four-game suspension with the NCAA is over. Brown also changed jersey numbers, going from No. 7 to No. 2.
  • The offensive line worked on staying low while blocking on the sleds.
  • Cam Sims led the wide receivers during the period, as ArDarius Stewart and Robert Foster are still day-to-day with injuries. Sims received deep passes from quarterback Jalen Hurts, and their counterparts did the same.
  • The tight ends, including O.J. Howard and Miller Forristall, worked on breaking away from one-on-one coverage.
