Four Alabama swimmers advance to SEC Championship finals after day three performance

Alabama’s swimming and diving teams finished day three of the Southeastern Conference Championships Thursday in the Allan Jones Aquatic Center at University of Tennessee, and Alabama managed to advance four swims to the championship finals.

Two swimmers, junior Luke Kaliszak and senior Connor Oslin made the championship final in the men’s 100 butterfly. Kaliszak timed in at 46.03 taking fifth place, while Olsin came in at 46.31 for eighth place. Oslin’s prelim time was 46.16, which landed him right behind Kaliszak for a second all-time best at Alabama.

Continuing with the men’s team, sophomore Laurent Bams came in seventh for the men’s 200 freestyle with a time of 1:34.96. Junior Christopher Reid (1:34.56) was 10th, senior Alex Gray (1:35.48) came in two behind Gray at 12th and junior Mathew Adams (1:37.44) finished 16th.

Sophomore Robert Howard came in 17th overall by winning the C final with 1:35.07.

On the women’s side, junior Mia Nonnenberg started the night in the women’s 400 individual medley with a time of 4:08.52. This put her in seventh place.

As the third day came to a close, Alabama’s men rank fourth with 415.5 points, while the women come in at 10th with 221 points.

The actions continues Friday, for the fourth day of prelims beginning at 10a.m. ET. Alabama will compete in the 200 butterfly, 100 backstroke, 100 breaststroke and women’s platform diving.
