New Orleans bands Galactic and Dumpstaphunk come to Tuscaloosa this week

This week New Orleans-based bands Galactic and Dumpstaphunk will bring their sounds to Tuscaloosa.

For over 20 years, Galactic members Rich Vogel, Robert Mercurio, Stanton Moore, Ben Ellman and Jeff Raines have been making music together, inspired by the sounds of their hometown. They’ll be performing at Druid City Music Hall on Tuesday, April 5.

The group’s latest album “In Too Deep” was released in the summer of 2015. According to their website, Ellman described the album as, “all about the people.”

According to Rolling Stone, “Dumpstaphunk has grown from a small side project into one of New Orleans’ most prestigious modern funk ensembles.” The group will also be at Druid City on Saturday April 9. The band has released three studio albums in their career.

Doors for both events will open at 7 p.m. with the acts coming on an hour later. Tickets for Galactica are $20 and $10-$15 for Dumpstaphunk.
