“I turned one guitar player into a drummer, and then I turned another into a
bassist,” Joiner said.

The band, based out of Sylacauga, Alabama, plays shows all around the Southeast. The band’s sound lies somewhere between hard rock and heavy metal.

“We’re inspired a lot by bands like Black Sabbath and Metallica,” Joiner said. “Those bands inspire my guitar playing as well as my songwriting.”

Joiner and the bassist for Forgotten Grey, Jason Whetstone, met in eighth grade and have been friends since then. Whetstone said he finds playing bass more enjoyable than playing guitar.

“I honestly wish I would have started playing bass before guitar. It really is a lot more fun to me,’’ Whetstone said.

Daniel Parker, drummer for Forgotten Grey, started playing the drums when he first joined the band.

“I played guitar for the longest time, but I had always been around drums and had toyed with them,” he said. “I started really focused on my drum playing when the band needed a new drummer.”

Forgotten Grey will play with Knympho Knife at Green Bar this Friday.
