No. 18 Alabama swept Presbyterian College 7-0 on Friday in its final matchup before SEC play begins, moving to 8-1 on the season.
In the first doubles match, Matias Ponce De Leon and Roan Jones got the Crimson Tide rolling early, winning 6-1 over Presbyterian’s Marco Foglieni and Denim Yadav.
Alabama’s Damien Nezar and Andrii Zimnokh secured the doubles point for the Crimson Tide, defeating Pedro Cardoso and Daksh Prasad 6-2.
The last doubles match saw Alabama’s Filip Planinsek and Matic Kriznik up 5-2 over Presbyterian’s David Mamalat and Evgenios Vasilakis before being suspended early after the Crimson Tide had already secured the doubles point.
Ponce De Leon made quick work of Prasad in the first singles match, winning in two sets (6-2, 6-2). Planinsek followed it up with a two-set win (6-3, 6-1) over Mamalat to put the Crimson Tide one point away from victory.
It was Jones who then clinched the win for Alabama, winning in two sets over Cardoso (6-3, 6-1). Kriznik shortly after dispatched Yadav in two sets (6-2, 7-5).
The Crimson Tide’s Zach Foster got in on the action, defeating the Blue Hose’s Eduardo Valentin in both sets (6-4, 6-2). Zimnokh secured the sweep for Alabama after winning both sets over Vasilakis (6-4, 7-5).
“This was a good nonconference stretch for the team, and we’ve made notable strides since the start of the year,” Husack said. “Now the fun starts with the conference season, and I’m confident our guys are ready for the challenge ahead.”
Alabama’s SEC opener will be on Saturday against South Carolina in Columbia at 12 p.m. CT.
