The Bama Theatre is looking forward to a spring season filled with exciting and unique events.
Whether for dance, comedy or live music, plenty of people will find something to look out for at the historic performing arts center. There are also many opportunities for students at the University and community members to collaborate and volunteer with event organizers.
“We’re putting out a lot of promotion across many platforms,” said Hannah Hall, interim manager at Bama Theatre. “We’ve done giveaways with local restaurants, press releases and appearances on radio shows.”
On Feb. 15, the Dance Alabama! student organization will be putting on a dance concert called #SICKMOVES. It will be free for anyone to attend and includes pre- and post-show parties for patrons. This show will begin at 7 p.m.
For those interested in more dance events, the Bama Theatre will be hosting several. The State Ballet Theatre of Ukraine is performing the classic “Swan Lake” on March 25, bringing Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s beloved work to Tuscaloosa. Just a day later, the tap dance group Syncopated Ladies will not only be performing but holding a dance class before the show.
For fans of rock music, the band Trash Panda will be performing on Feb. 28 alongside local opening act Sonic Soldier.
However, there won’t just be musical events taking place this season. On March 21, comedian and magician Andy Gross will be taking the stage for a very unique show mixing his talents. The next day, UA alum and rising New York comic Jay Jurden will also put on a performance showcasing his hilarious skills.
Grace Marrochello, the theatre’s marketing coordinator, feels that the wide-ranging nature of the performances is a benefit to the venue.
“We’re bringing in multiple types of audiences,” Marrochello said. “These diverse performances and unique events increase our reach to so many different communities.”
These events also offer volunteering positions for those looking to engage further with the theatre. Links can be found on social media for volunteer forms and other ways to help, such as sending donations or subscribing to Bama Theatre’s newsletter.
